This Narcissism Thing

Two epidemics that are interacting
Which each other one is the loneliness
And the other is narcissism
I believe narcissicm has gone
From something that people
Had and you could stay away from them
To something closer to an epidemic
And I think social media has done that
What I’ve learned about this narcissicm thing

I used to [C7]think it was [Am7]people who thought
They were great, thought they were great
Thought they werе great

Who thought they were great
This narcissism thing
It’s not about people thinking they’re great
Thinking they’re great
It’s about people who have broken self esteem
Just completely broken

And the way they deal
Their broken self-esteem
Is by belittling other people
Or one upping them, bragging, putting
Them [A]down, shutting them [A]down
Thwarting them [A]in any way you [A7can

I used to [C7]think it was [Am7]people who thought
They were great, thought they were great

Who thought they were great
This narcissism thing
It’s not about people thinking they’re great
Thinking they’re great
It’s about people who have broken self esteem
Just completely broken

Imagine living in a world where everybody
Is criticising everybody for [Dm7]everything
That’s our world
We live in a world where everybody
Is criticising everybody for [Dm7]everything
Imagine that how would you [A7like [F]to [C7]be [Am]a
Teenager and [Bm]be [Am]criticised on [C7]everything
That shirt you [A7wore that one day, that
Embarrassing thing you [A7did just once
But somebody saw it
But you’re not as pretty or
As handsome or as stɾong
Or as good at sports as this other person
It’s gotta be [Am]devastating, devastating
And there’s just more of it
Because it’s in your face and [Bm]you [A7are
Seeing the impossible images of people, who
You want to [C7]be [Am]like, but you’re not etcetera
