Mudlarking

Found some shade
Got a bucket and spade
Down by the estuary
Got a bloke I don't half fancy
To keep me company

Distant shadows, the mud-larks
Where the headland meets the sea
Blue china and oyster shells
Us, and the old man makes three

Gulls and [Bm]cormorants circle the bay
Down by the estuary
He came to [C7]help me manage
My difficult husband
Forgot [Fm7]to [C7]marry me

Porcelain pipes and [Bm]a coconut shell
Washed up the sea
A lovely pair of leather loafers
What was [Am7]got [Fm7]in Italy

Oh, what's the use in a fine pair of shoes
All pickled in the brine... (I said
You can take whatever you [A7fancy, dear
From that cold, stiff husband [Bm]of mine)

Arms got [Fm7]tired from all [Em]this digging
Stopped for [Dm7]a cup of tea
A plate of eels, swimming in the jelly
That was [Am7]caught on [C7]the estuary

A useful float and [Bm]a sign off a sail boat
Down by the estuary
Half the feckin' cockles off the English coastline
'E stuffed in his pockets with glee

He liked a little bit of his mud-larking
Forgot [Fm7]to [C7]marry me

Oh, we did have a funny old time of it
Down by the estuary

He took good care of me difficult husband
Forgot [Fm7]to [C7]marry me
