Lush Life

I used to visit
all the very gay places
Those come what may places
Where one relaxes on
the axis of the wheel of life
To get the feel of life
From jazz and cocktails
The boys I knew had
sad and sullen gray faces
With distingue tɾaces
That used to [C7]be [Am]there
you [A7could see where
they'd been washed away
By too many thru the day
Twelve o'clock tales
Then you [A7came along
with your siren song
To tempt me to [C7]madness
I thought for [Dm7]a while that
your poignant smile was
tinged with the sadness
Of a great love for [Dm7]me
Ah yes! I was [Am7]wrong
Again
I was [Am7]wrong
Life is lonely again
And only last year
everything seemed so sure
Now life is awful again
A tɾoughful of hearts
could only be [Am]a bore
A week in Paris
will ease the bite of it
All I care is to [C7]smile
in spite of it
I'll forget you [A7I will
While yet you [A7are still
burning inside my [A]brain
Romance is mush
Stifling those who stɾive
I'll live a lush life
in some small [Em]dive
And there I'll be, while I ɾot
With the ɾest of those whose
lives are lonely too

Romance is mush
Stifling those who stɾive

in some small [Em]dive
And there I'll be, while I ɾot
