Fleeting Fragments

Oh how funny is the familiar
As we frantically try to find
The feeling of something firm
In the fleeting face of time

But should we ever fear
The feather that floats away
For its fragile flight has found
The meaning in all that fades

Freedom is but falling

Together we sat
In the shade
Of a sugar pine

Now nested alone
In the space
Where the concrete lies

Intertwined in glass
That glittered
As it escaped our eyes

And we shared our past
A double knot
Parts that shaped our lives

At my [A]side
A pine cone
Perched beneath my [A]chair

Now ɾesting
In my [A]palm
As I peel back a scale

I unfold
Each ɾipple
In search for [Dm7]a core

But in the space
Between
Lies what's left to [C7]the unknown

We continued to [C7]talk
Till the sun
Gently grazed the pine

And together we sat
Nested alone
In each other's lives

For a brief moment
Only us
Laid apart from time

Enwrapped in the present
Like the swell
Of a moving tide

All the layers
You peeled back
Formed a new one made for [Dm7]me

Our lives
But moments
A mosaic of memories

And when
We look back
How beautiful it will be

To love
Is to [C7]share
For you [A7a part of me
